Erling Haaland’s new Man City contract has Liverpool fans all making the same point.

Liverpool fans have had their say on Erling Haaland’s extraordinary new Manchester City contract.

On Friday morning, it was confirmed that Haaland, 24, had signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract, which will keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2034.

By then, Haaland will be 34 and if he continues his current goalscoring exploits he will likely break Alan Shearer’s 260-goal all-time Premier League scoring record.

Of course, things could change as they often do in football. The 24-year-old could transfer to another club or even sustain long-term injuries which could harm his chances of breaking the record.

But this is not the only record that Haaland is likely to smash, with TBR reporting that the contract is worth over £500,000 per week – a record wage for a Premier League player.

This sees him overtake Kevin De Bruyne as both City’s and the Premier League’s highest-paid player, earning £400,000 per week according to Capology.

When asked about Haaland’s contract during a press conference on Friday, Liverpool boss Arne Slot explained how “every team spends a lot of money” but insisted his side are still able to competewith the likes of Chelsea, Man United and City.

However fans were less positive and were quick to give their thoughts on social media.

One said: “Man City giving Haaland a 9.5 year contract, while we’re deliberating whether we should give Van Dijk & Salah a new contract after everything they’ve given to Liverpool. Yes, age plays a part, but the stalling doesn’t sit right with me.”

Another added: “I honestly don’t understand the reason for it dragging out so long. It’s disrespectful.”

A third commented: “It’s poor from the club and it’s only made worse by them getting their stooges to embarrass the players. For speaking about it to the press. They have a history trying to turn fans against players.”

While a fourth explained: “How do you think, Salah and Van Dijk must feel. Wouldn’t blame them if they left. LFC deserve better owners. FSG now being exposed for what they are, rubbish owners.”

But another gave a balanced view: “Aside the age, I think it’s more of finding the right numbers in terms of money to pay them. It would certainly feed into contract negotiations with other players at the club going forward.”
