Son Heung-min Files Blackmail Complaint Against Woman as Unsettling Details Emerge

Tottenham Hotspur winger and captain Son Heung-min has reportedly submitted a complaint to South Korean police after a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s had allegedly blackmailed the 32-year-old star with a false pregnancy claim.

In an effort to extort several hundred million won from the former Bayer Leverkusen hotshot, the aforementioned pair are being investigated by police in Seoul – the capital city of South Korea – after he and his team claimed that the claims were false.

According to the Korea Times, the Gangnam Police Station – which is situated in the capital – said on Wednesday that it had booked the woman, identified only by her surname A, on charges of blackmail. The outcome is currently unknown.

According to Son’s legal team, the woman’s claims about the South Korean skipper were made in June last year. She said that she was pregnant and, as such, demanded large sums of money – several hundred million won, to be precise – in return for not going public.

For those who are unaware: one British pound is roughly equivalent to 1,859 South Korean won.

Police, in order to determine the outcome, are now looking into the case thoroughly as Son – widely regarded as one of the greatest wingers in world football – and his teammates prepare for a Europa League final against Manchester United.

“The police are currently investigating, so we will let you know the results as soon as they are available,” his agency, Son & Football Limited, said per The Guardian. “We’d like to tell you that Son Heung-min is clearly the victim of this incident.”

Son, as things stand, has no kids – and has previously hinted that he doesn’t want to have a family until he hangs up his boots and retires as a means of fully devoting himself to his team and football. Speaking exclusively to The Guardian in 2019, the tricky winger said:

“My father says this, and I agree, as well. When you marry, the number one will be family, wife and kids, and then football. I want to make sure that while I player at the top level, football can be number one.”

“You don’t know how long you can player at the top level,” one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players said before adding that post-retirement life is tailored to having a family. “When you retire, or when you are 33 or 34, you can still have a long life with your family.”

On the pitch, Tottenham’s Premier League season is all but over as they languish just adrift of the England top flight’s relegation zone. It’s all to play for in Europe, however, as Ange Postecoglou’s side travel to Bilbao in pursuit of European gold next week.
