Tottenham defender signs new contract, he was in squad for loss v Aston Villa

Ange Postecoglou oversaw yet another Premier League defeat on Friday as Spurs lost 2-0 to Aston Villa.

It was the London club’s 21st defeat of their top-flight campaign, with all eyes now on the Europa League final on Wednesday.

As a result, Postecoglou rested many of his key stars at Villa Park, with both Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro starting on the bench.

Another player who was in the matchday squad was upcoming youngster Dante Cassanova, who has now signed a new contract.

Cassanova is seen as a top upcoming youngster at Tottenham.

While the midfielder is yet to make his first-team debut, he has now been an unused substitute six times this season after the Villa defeat.

Casanova signed his first professional deal with Tottenham in 2023 and has largely been praised for his resilience after multiple injuries.

Cassanova is seen as a highly promising youngster at Tottenham

Now, he has been rewarded for his performances in the academy with a new contract.

According to Lilywhite Rose (17 May), Cassanove has now signed a new deal at Tottenham.

His contract was set to expire in June, but he will now stay beyond this campaign.

It is unknown how long his new deal is at the London club.

Postecoglou needs to give Cassanova a chance against Brighton

While Tottenham’s season completely rests on Wednesday night’s final, they still have one Premier League game left to play.

With Spurs hosting Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next weekend, it is a match with little consequence.

Therefore, Postecoglou should look to play some of the London club’s top academy products, including Cassanova.

Most of the first team are likely to be exhausted, no matter what the result is on Wednesday.

Giving many of the younger players a chance would therefore make sense, and it would open a pathway for more first-team appearances next season.
