Tottenham Hotspur’s recent win in Spain at the San Mames Stadium against Manchester United in the Europa League is sure to bring an end to their banter era, after the Lilywhites ended a 17-year wait for silverware.
It was a 1-0 victory over United that saw Ange Postecoglou’s men etch their name into Spurs history, becoming only the fourth side to win a European trophy at the club.
This is sure to mark a perfect ending to an otherwise dismal domestic campaign, which has Tottenham sitting in lowly 17th place in the Premier League table this season.

For rival fans and pundits who have given it large to Tottenham fans and players for their inability to get over the line in crucial moments, Spurs‘ victory in Spain has certainly silenced their critics.
Gareth Bale was on punditry duty during the Spurs’ Europa League final clash against Manchester United, and he has now stated that Tottenham’s final win should get rid of the stigma often associated with the club.
He told TNT Sports when asked whether the Europa League win gets rid of the Spursy tag: “It could be a United-y thing now, I am telling you. But it gets rid of that stigma now for sure, and hopefully we can build on it.”
Spurs have UEFA Super Cup showdown still to come
Spurs would be hoping to build on their recent European success when they take to the field in another European final in the UEFA Super Cup, where they will face one of Inter Milan or Paris Saint-Germain.
The Super Cup will take place in Udinese, Italy, and with experience when it comes to winning European trophies, the Lilywhites would fancy themselves once more.
Before then, though, Tottenham still have a single game left in the Premier League, where they play Brighton in their final league game, and although it is considered a dead rubber, Postecoglou’s men could still leapfrog Manchester United if his side betters their result.
