15 Worst Premier League Players in 2024/25

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah hit extraordinary heights, Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest was in the form of his life and Newcastle United marksman Alexander Isak made the art of goalscoring look rather simple: it’s not unfair to say that it was a hectic Premier League campaign in 2024/25.

As is the toughness of England’s primary division, there are a handful of players, however, who struggled to reach their potential – and, as you can probably guess, a lot of those players are from relegation-threatened outfits and the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

With the 2024/25 Premier League season now at an end, let’s take a look at the worst-performing assets, by virtue of their overall FotMob rating, in the English top flight since the campaign got underway in August. From Rasmus Hojlund to Kalvin Phillips, here are the 15 worst performers thus far.

Two Leicester players kick us off as former West Ham and current Ipswich Town star Ben Johnson takes up 15th spot, although he is tied with Wout Faes on a 6.37. He is followed by another Tractor Boy in Axel Tuanzebe. At least the former Manchester United man didn’t have the weight of expectations the Red Devils’ failures did this term to further worsen matters.

Southampton’s Paul Onuachu follows in 13th, with the target man able to do nothing to stop the Saints from going down a year after getting promoted. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Joe Willock has seemingly lost the magic touch he once had at the club as he finds himself in the bottom 15.

Finally, It has been a turbulent first season in the Premier League for Joshua Zirkzee. His lowest moment came when he was substituted in the first half of a defeat to Newcastle in December, leading to loud boos from the Old Trafford faithful who voiced their displeasure with his performance and though he has somewhat recovered since, it is not eough for him to escape this list.

10. Yukinari Sugawara, Southampton

FotMob rating: 6.33

Once of AZ Alkmaar, Japanese defender Yukinari Sugawara was brought in at St Mary’s to offer some quality at right-back and fit into Russell Martin’s style of play. Whether it was that the player couldn’t adapt or simply that the team wasn’t good enough to carry out those instructions in the top flight, the full-back, like the rest of his teammates, struggled.

During the campaign, he conceded as many penalties as he contributed to goals, which is not exactly what you hope for from a defender. This leaves his score tied with Zirkzee at 6.33.

9Vladimir Coufal, West Ham United

FotMob rating: 6.32

What with the addition of former Manchester United enforcer Aaron Wan-Bissaka, West Ham United‘s Vladimir Coufal was always going to find minutes hard to come by this season. In fact, there have been a plethora of times when the seasoned right-back, 32, has been left on the bench by Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter.

In his 1061 minutes of Premier League action this term, Coufal – despite being instrumental in their Europa Conference League-winning campaign in 2022/23 – has been given a rating of just 6.32. It is a less than ideal end to what has been a memorable stint at the club, with his departure confirmed in an emotional video.

8. Adam Armstrong, Southampton

FotMob rating: 6.30

The best way to display that Adam Armstrong was struggling to perform as Southampton’s line-leader in the Premier League is that he spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at West Bromwich Albion. They ply their trade in the Championship, a division proven to be the striker’s level.

While on the south coast, the Englishman notched two goals and the same number of assists in a total of 20 appearances and the level of centre-backs proved too onerous – that was highlighted by his overall rating of 6.30, which perhaps may have gotten worse if not for his temporary move.

7. Jack Taylor, Ipswich Town

FotMob rating: 6.30

Ipswich Town engine room operator Jack Taylor finds himself with a less than ideal impression as part of an Ipswich side that were always bound to struggle, having made two consecutive leaps up the footballing pyramid. While the likes of Liam Delap were able to flourish, Taylor didn’t fit into that category.

He joins Armstrong on a rating of 6.30, though he only started four top-flight games, so it was always going to be a challenge for him to produce a respectable score.

6. George Hirst, Ipswich town

FotMob rating: 6.29

Speaking of someone who hasn’t had much time in the Ipswich first team this season, George Hirst has started just five of the 26 league games he has been a part of, so his average rating has clearly been affected.

With the aforementioned Delap in red-hot form, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the 26-year-old to find his way in and amongst the first team. However, he at least does have three Premier League goals to his name, even if it has led to a disappointing 6.29 rating.

5. Oliver Skipp, Leicester City

FotMob rating: 6.25

What Oliver Skipp has proven over the years is that he’d be a decent option for a side fighting to stay up in the Premier League – but, in 2025, he wasn’t able to do enough to help his new employers Leicester avoid the drop.

The 24-year-old’s influence has not been as fruitful as hoped, however, and he struggled to cement a spot in the starting line-up under both Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy. From the off, he’s accrued 1120 minutes and failed to manage a single goal involvement – as evidenced by his lowly rating of 6.25.

4. Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United

FotMob rating: 6.25

Rasmus Hojlund’s misfiring stint at Manchester United is a curious case. Albeit clearly talented, things are yet to click for the young Dane, who arrived in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £72 million – and after struggling under Erik ten Hag has experienced the same issues under the new tenureship of Ruben Amorim.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Hojlund is the first player in Manchester United history to notch 10 goals in Europe before turning the age of 22.

Per FotMob, the 22-year-old has notched a rating of 6.25 across 32 appearances in the English top flight, having plundered just four goals all campaign. Patience is beginning to wear thin, and there is every chance that United will pull the plug on this expensive experiment.

3. Cameron Archer, Southampton

FotMob rating: 6.18

When Championship teams get promoted to the top tier, what often saves them from dropping back down is a prolific centre forward. For Southampton, Cameron Archer was the talisman of choice in the summer of 2024, but it’s not unfair to say that their audacious punt did not paid dividends.

That’s perfectly encapsulated by his porous form in the final third: five goals in 40 appearances since his move. Now linked with a transfer to Leeds United, according to GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Walsall-born Archer may have the chance to re-earth his career from the depths – whether he does or not, however, remains to be seen.

2. Archie Gray, Tottenham Hotspur

FotMob rating: 6.17

One of England’s hottest prospects pre-Tottenham Hotspur move, Archie Gray was one of Leeds United’s most important players – and, having featured as a central midfielder and at right-back, his versatility shone through. The north Londoners were the winners of his signature, but he’s been forced to play at centre-back.

Injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have left Ange Postecoglou shortchanged in that area – and he leant on the youth of Gray for the majority of the campaign. Still just 18 years of age, the Durham-born phenom has been dubbed ‘the future of Spurs’ – but, despite his overall rating of 6.17, may earn interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

1. Conor Coady, Leicester City

FotMob rating: 6.17

And so, with the distinction of being the worst Premier League player of the season, it is a man who has represented England at major tournaments: Conor Coady. The veteran recaptured form in the Championship for Leicester, and it was hoped his experience would play a pivotal role in ensuring the Foxes stayed tight defensively in a season where they were always going to be under a lot of pressure.

Things have not quite panned out that way though, with Coady and Leicester conceding goals on a regular basis. This has left the once-midfield option with a rating of 6.15 – the worst in the entire division.
