Study Reveals How Happy Every Premier League Club’s Fans are With 24/25 Season

The 2024/25 Premier League season is done and dusted and it delivered very different fortunes for the 20 teams that have been competing within it over the last nine months. Sides like Liverpool and Nottingham Forest had campaigns to remember, performing well beyond what any of their supporters could have predicted last August.

Others had a disastrous season, with the likes of Manchester United and West Ham United really falling below where anyone expected them to be before the ball got rolling last summer. A fascinating new study has revealed just how satisfied the fanbase of each and every club in the top flight are with how their years unfolded.

The Athletic asked their subscribers to reveal how happy they were with their respective clubs’ 2024/25 campaigns. Surprisingly, more supporters were happy than frustrated, but let’s take a look at the full results below.

Crystal Palace Had a Very Satisfied Fanbase

They weren’t the only ones happy

To the surprise of probably no one, Crystal Palace had one of the most satisfied fanbases coming out of the 2024/25 season. The Eagles finished 12th in the table, two spots below where they were last time around, but their success in the FA Cup meant none of that mattered and 95.2% of their supporters said they were ‘very satisfied’. Oliver Glasner led the club to their first ever major trophy with a victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final and it’s a moment they’ll never forget.

They weren’t the only club with a very happy bunch of supporters, though. Coincidentally, the team in second is Newcastle United, another club who tasted domestic success. While it wasn’t their first ever trophy, the Magpies’ League Cup win marked their first bit of silverware in decades. They also secured a Champions League spot, so it was a very successful campaign for Eddie Howe and company and 93.8% of their fans were ‘very satisfied’. Nottingham Forest and Liverpool both also left their fans feeling very satisfied, with the former exceeding expectations and finishing seventh, while the latter marked Arne Slot’s debut campaign in England with their second ever Premier League trophy.

Brentford, Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur also had fanbases who were mostly very satisfied with their season, according to the study. The Bees and the Cherries performed at a level above where many predicted, finishing in the top half. Unai Emery’s men missed out on a Champions League spot on the final day of the campaign following some questionable officiating against Manchester United and Tottenham ended their trophy drought with a Europa League win, meaning their fans cared very little about the fact they finished all the way down in 17th.

Clubs Who Were Somewhat Satisfied

Some teams weren’t thrilled with how their campaigns unfolded, but they weren’t necessarily unhappy with them either. Brighton & Hove Albion had a solid first season under Fabian Hurzeler, finishing eighth in the Premier League table. It’s three places higher than the 2023/24 season, and 70% of their fans were satisfied with their performances. Everton and Fulham supporters were also satisfied with their seasons, with the sides finishing 13th and 11th respectively.

49.3% of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were satisfied with how the side performed. It’s a number that likely only increased following Vitor Pereira’s arrival. Arsenal finished second in the table for the third straight season and while that is likely disappointing for the supporters, 53.9% are said to be satisfied and their run to the Champions League semi-final will have helped that.

The last fanbase said to be satisfied is Chelsea. The Blues bounced back from a couple of tough seasons to finish inside the top four and secure a Champions League spot during Enzo Maresca’s first campaign.

Only Two Teams Have Dissatisfied Fans

They are Ipswich Town and Manchester City

After several years of dominance, Manchester City took a step back this time around and had to settle for a third-placed finish. Pep Guardiola’s side also failed to win any other competition and finished the campaign without adding any silverware to their trophy cabinet for the first time in a while. As a result of their issues, the majority of the City supporters are said to be dissatisfied with their season.

No one really expected much from Ipswich Town following their promotion from the Championship last year and the Tractor Boys were sent straight back down to the second tier. It wasn’t a surprising result, but some of their supporters were still left disappointed with their performances and 53.2% of their fanbase is said to be dissatisfied with the campaign.

Several Fanbases Are Very Dissatisfied With Their Campaign

Including West Ham United

Only four fanbases were said to be very dissatisfied with how their clubs performed this season. Leicester City and Southampton failed to avoid relegation in their first seasons back in the Premier League. Both sides changed managers throughout the season, but it meant very little and they’ve gone straight back down to the Championship. The Saints were even one point away from matching Derby County’s record for the lowest tally in the history of the league. As a result, fans of both the Foxes and the Saints were said to be very dissatisfied with their campaigns.

West Ham United performed well below expectations this season and the arrival of Graham Potter did little to turn the tide in their favour. The Hammers finished 14th in the league and 70.6% of their supporters were very dissatisfied with that. No team had fans more disappointed with their year, though, than Manchester United. Despite having the second-highest wage bill in the Premier League, the Red Devils had their worst ever campaign in the division, finishing 15th.

They failed to win any silverware and face a tough task this summer if they’re to turn things around under Ruben Amorim. A whopping 88.3% of the Red Devils fanbase is said to be very dissatisfied with the club’s season.
