By virtue of falling out of favour under head coach Ruben Amorim, Marcus Rashford’s career at Manchester United looks all but done – and, as a result, he agreed to a season-long loan move to Barcelona this summer and Hansi Flick and Co’s stance on terminating his deal prematurely has been revealed.
A move to play alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha looked like it could have been exactly what the doctor ordered to get things back on track for the Englishman, but recent reports suggested that Barcelona were considering whether to cut ties early.
Three games into his spell at his temporary La Liga employers, El Nacional had claimed that concerns had already surfaced around Rashford, especially after missing out on signing one of Luis Diaz and Nico Williams. Journalist Guillem Balague has now revealed Barcelona’s true feelings towards the winger.
Journalist Reveals Barcelona’s Stance Regarding Ending Rashford Loan Early

Barcelona, who are looking to retain their status as La Liga champions after last season’s triumph, have the option to make Rashford’s move permanent for £30 million next summer – but they are in no way, shape or form obliged to do so.
Should he not impress, Rashford could return to Old Trafford to (once again!) re-think his future plans. Thus far for La Blaugrana, he’s made three appearances this season but is yet to plunder either a goal or assist. His appearances – equating to 94 minutes – have largely come off the bench.
Rashford’s first start came against Levante at the Estadio Ciutat de Valencia, but he’s yet to show the Spanish top flight why he was once regarded as one of world football’s most exciting talents.
Setting the record straight, Balague took to X (formerly Twitter) to suggest that Barcelona chiefs – which would likely include Sporting Director Deco – are keen to retain his services for the season with the belief that he will be a top player. He wrote:
“Absolutely rubbish that Barcelona is planning to end up early Marcus Rashford loan deal. Barcelona told his representative that they have a lot of confidence in Rashford’s potential and that they believe he will recover as a top player.”
“No more to say, apart from the fact I agree with Gary Lineker and his treatment by some media,” he continued. In mid-August, Rashford sat down with Gary Lineker – who has also plied his trade for Barcelona – to talk all things football.
One thing that emerged during their conversation was the British media’s treatment of the Manchester-born winger, as Lineker claimed that he wouldn’t receive the same criticism if he was white; that sentiment is something Balague agrees with.
Elsewhere, sources close to the 27-year-old have told The Sun that he has no intention of returning to Old Trafford in January. The publication understands that Flick and his entourage are continuing to offer Rashford their full support.
Although things, admittedly, haven’t got off to a flyer, Rashford has still won the trust of England boss Thomas Tuchel, who started him off the left flank in their 2-0 win over Andorra. He lasted 68 minutes before being substituted off for Anthony Gordon.
Whether there’s a plane ticket with his name on it for the 2026 World Cup remains to be seen. Internationally, he’s scored 17 goals in 62 outings – but there is plenty of competition for places on the flanks as, this season, the likes of Cole Palmer and Phil Foden will be battling for their places.
