‘I’m Sorry’: West Ham star pens 79-word apology after 3/10 Leeds United showing.
The central midfielder was one of several West Ham players caught lacking against Leeds United on Friday evening.
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has taken to social media following the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United on Friday night to offer an apology to the fans.
The Hammers were in desperate need of a response following a dismal display in the 2-0 loss to Brentford on Monday night. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side did not manage that and found themselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes.
A late Mateus Fernandes goal made the scoreline somewhat more respectable but little can be done to cover up what was another disastrous outing for the now relegation-threatened club.
Tomas Soucek apologises to West Ham fans
Soucek has so often stood up when the going gets tough but that is not proving the case this season. The 30-year-old was hooked after 65 minutes against Leeds United and rated a 3/10 for his performance by Claret and Hugh.
The website wrote: “Further forward than on Monday which unfortunately left Irving on his own in midfield on occasion. Missed a header from 6 yards just before half time. It felt like a big miss from a chance Soucek would usually take.”
The fixture against Leeds United was Soucek’s 200th Premier League outing and the player took to social media on Saturday to reflect on his journey and apologise to West Ham fans.
He wrote: “Yesterday was my 200th Premier League match. I’m incredibly grateful for my journey with West Ham. Full of amazing moments, but also some disappointments. Thank you all so much for your support, especially to the fans, whom I truly appreciate and share a special bond with. I’m really sorry about our current situation.
“West Ham doesn’t belong where we are right now. I’ll do everything I can to help turn things around and get WHU back where it belongs!!”
Jarrod Bowen issues Hammers rallying cry
Soucek joined the club from Slavia Prague in 2020, initially on a loan and then on a permanent deal reported to be worth £19 million. The player had been linked with a move to Everton this summer to work with former West Ham boss David Moyes, but nothing came of those rumours.
Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen once again called on players to step up after the defeat to Leeds United, with support angst still aimed towards club owners. Bowen said: “This is the Premier League and we need to really pull our finger out. As we’re in a real situation. We have to face the reality of that, the sooner it starts hitting everyone, it needs to change.
“You can’t come out here and say anything different. You can’t say anything positive or anything in that way. You have to face the reality of where we are: second bottom and we’re in trouble now. We have to accept that.
“It’s just not brave enough, not doing the jobs good enough until the end. We get a goal back, it’s disallowed. It always felt like one goal and you always get a bit of confidence when you score. We did that, it was too late. Not good enough.”
