Liverpool travel to face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday evening in a bid to maintain their nine-point lead at the top of the table

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has fired a warning to Liverpool ahead of their Premier League clash at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening.
The Reds are currently nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea at the top of the standings, and 11 ahead of current champions Manchester City. Arne Slot’s side have won 11 of their 13 games so far this term, and have a 100 per cent record in Europe.
Following Sunday’s 2-0 triumph over City, Liverpool now face the task of maintaining their significant lead through the busy run of winter fixtures, starting with Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle. The Magpies sit 11th as things stand, but are only four points off top four and 15 points adrift of the Reds at the top of the table.

Newcastle playmaker Guimaraes will make his 100th Premier League appearance this evening when he leads Eddie Howe’s side out against the Reds. In a social media post, the Brazilian wrote: “Very happy to be making my 100th appearance in the Premier League! Let’s make a great atmosphere tonight and fight for the three points.”
Liverpool won both of their league meetings with Newcastle last season, coming from behind to beat them 2-1 at St James’ Park in August last year. Anthony Gordon had initially given the hosts the lead in the first half before captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off, but two late goals from Darwin Nunez secured the victory.
In January, the two sides met at Anfield and the Reds emerged comfortable 4-2 winners. Mohamed Salah scored a brace, while Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo were also on the scoresheet that day.
