Man City enter race to sign ‘future Ballon d’Or winner’ who ripped rivals Liverpool apart.
Manchester City reportedly show interest in signing a star player dubbed a future Ballon d’Or winner
Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign one of world football’s brightest talents, as they look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
The reigning Premier League champions have endured an uncharacteristically challenging campaign by their high standards. They currently sit 13th in the league table, trailing fourth-placed Chelsea by 13 points and league leaders Liverpool by 23 points. With the January transfer window now open, City are looking to bring in reinforcements to revive their season.
Manchester City linked with a move for ‘future Ballon d’Or winner’
Reports suggest City have joined the race to sign Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a player widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in world football and a potential future Ballon d’Or winner.
According to French outlet L’Équipe, City face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the 23-year-old Georgian international, who has dazzled in Serie A with his creative flair and decisive performances.
Kvaratskhelia has been tipped for greatness by many, including his Napoli teammate Victor Osimhen, who said:
“Everyone loves him in the dressing room, not only for what he does on the pitch but also for what he does off the pitch.
“I believe he can win the Ballon d’Or in the next few years. I hope he also brings many successes to Napoli.”
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Thursday that could complicate matters for City. Romano wrote on social media:
“Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has definitely opened doors to a January exit. PSG, on it. Paris Saint-Germain, favorites and in direct contact with Napoli — as revealed today.
“Package around €80m discussed while Kvara’s camp in talks with PSG over personal terms, progressing well.”
Kvaratskhelia has already demonstrated his ability to shine on the biggest stages. His performance against Liverpool in the Champions League back in 2022, where Napoli triumphed 4-1, highlighted his exceptional skill and ability to trouble even the strongest defenses.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was full of praise for Kvaratskhelia after that match, saying:
“He’s a good player. Really quick, and you have to defend him together in these moments. When he has the advantage of the first movement, then he is already gone.
“You have to try to be there in the moment when the ball arrives, but if you cannot do that then you need to be protected because he has speed, he is cheeky, he goes inside, he can go outside—that makes it always really difficult.”
With Kvaratskhelia’s name on the radar of top clubs like City and PSG, the battle for his signature is likely to heat up as the January transfer window progresses. It remains to be seen whether the Etihad side can secure the services of this generational talent.
