Liverpool Legend Among 15 Favourites to Replace Postecoglou at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou’s time in charge of Tottenham Hotspur has been nothing short of tumultuous: in his first season, there were glimmers of hope that he would finally break the curse and, ahead of his second campaign, he promised silverware.

That’s still on the cards for the north London-based outfit given they are one of four English sides left in a European competition – but Daniel Levy and his entourage will be keeping an eye on the intricacies of his spell between now and the end of term.

And according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, the Greek-Australian tactician is likely to leave north London at the end of the season – and that’s irrespective of Europa League glory or not. Here, we take a look at the 15 favourites to replace Postecoglou.

10Scott Parker, Burnley

Current odds: 20/1

 

Burnley have officially been promoted to the Premier League and, as a result of his influence from the touchline, Scott Parker has put himself in the shop window. A former midfielder himself, the London-born 44-year-old has endured his fair share of managerial struggles since retiring from the beautiful game in the summer of 2017.

He’s endured stints at Fulham, Bournemouth and a 12-outing spell at Club Brugge – but his time at Turf Moor post-Vincent Kompany has been the most fruitful by a country mile. Over 48 games, he’s accrued a points per match rate of 2.08, but can Tottenham afford to take a punt on a relatively inexperienced manager?

9Brendan Rodgers, Celtic

Current odds: 16/1

Could the Northern Irishman get another crack of the Premier League whip? Brendan Rodgers – who is currently loving life north of the border with Scottish behemoths Celtic after replacing none other than Postecoglou – is something of a divisive figure among fans, but his FA Cup-winning campaign with Leicester in 2020/21 is a testament to his managerial prowess.

Rodgers no doubt has the experience of working with sides in England’s top flight – it’s, perhaps, his lack of success that could prevent Tottenham from snaring his services. As things stand, the former Liverpool boss has the solitary year left on his contract, but he’s not ruled out the possibility of extending his stay.

8Massimiliano Allegri, Free Agent

Current odds: 14/1

A highly accomplished manager in Massimiliano Allegri who is also a free agent? Yes please! According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Levy was in contact with the former Juventus boss – who left his position with the Old Lady in May 2024 – in January 2025 as they began to chalk up a list of potential replacements.

Allegri, who has been out of a job for almost 12 months, is a serial winner. Across his two stints in Turin, he won all manner of silverware – and given that Tottenham last won a trophy in 2008, there is every chance that he’ll be nearing the top of their shopping list.

7Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town

Current odds: 12/1

Forget about Ipswich Town’s struggles in the Premier League this campaign, Kieran McKenna is still widely regarded as one of the best young managers in world football – and that’s for good reason, too, when you consider the job he’s done at Portman Road. He’s tactically astute, fronts the criticism and his personable touch also doesn’t go unnoticed.

Somewhat a ‘breath of fresh air’, the 38-year-old – albeit young and inexperienced – could be the face of Tottenham for years to come. From McKenna’s perspective, he may feel like he’s not achieved what he wants to in England’s top flight – and given that Ipswich are unlikely to dodge relegation, moving to Spurs could be an attractive proposition.

6Edin Terzic, Free Agent

Current odds: 10/1

Edin Terzic was one of the hottest commodities in the managerial sphere on the back of his two stints with Borussia Dortmund – but his name has somewhat dwindled into obscurity. He won 58% of his games in charge of Die Schwarzgelben and his brand of attacking football would lift bums off seats at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He led the Bundesliga giants – who are often overshadowed by their arch-rivals Bayern Munich – to a German Cup in 2021 and to the Champions League final in 2024. Often, the German-Croatian chief fell short in his pursuit of silverware, an aspect that may discourage the powers that be at Tottenham.

5Xavi Hernandez, Free Agent

Current odds: 8/1

A seasoned midfielder of yesteryear, Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez has been out of work since Hansi Flick replaced him at his boyhood club – and, therefore, is on the list of Spurs should they look for a dugout change in the near future. As such, he’s been given odds of 8/1 to succeed Postecoglou.

Thanks to his exhaustive career as a player, Xavi’s know-how of player-manager relationships is second to none and his adaptability could benefit those on Tottenham’s books. At Barcelona, the former engine room operator – often regarded as one of the best passers in football history – often splashed the cash on players and lived beyond their financial means, but that would not be the case in north London.

4Marco Silva, Fulham

Current odds: 6/1

What Marco Silva has done so spectacularly at Craven Cottage is that Fulham are difficult to beat. The same cannot be said for Postecoglou’s Spurs, who often fall to defeat without putting up a fight, and the Portuguese could instil some sort of confidence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Silva, who began his managerial career at Estoril Praia before being spotted by Sporting CP, has long been touted for a move elsewhere but nothing, as yet, has come to fruition. Moving across the capital, therefore, remains a possibility. Fulham’s race for European football could confuse matters, however, should Tottenham make the 47-year-old a concrete target.

3Thomas Frank, Brentford

Current odds: 5/1

Thomas Frank’s CV has gone from strength to strength in recent years. The loveable Dane – whose tactical know-how has earned praise aplenty – took up the Brentford job in 2018 and the west Londoners are now a mainstay in the Premier League, which is a huge testament to Frank’s brilliance.

Albeit their form (at times) has been up and down, what is so special about the 51-year-old is how much the players – and fans – trust him. He’s got an awful lot of credit in the bank, shall we say. After all, there must be a reason why his name is perennially thrown about when a vacancy at a so-called ‘bigger club’ arises.

2Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth

Current odds: 7/2

When Real Madrid are also interested amid the news that Carlo Ancelotti will be stepping down soon, there is very little chance that Spurs will be able to compete for Andoni Iraola’s sought-after services – but, irrespective of the competition, Tottenham have been afforded odds of 7/2 to get their hands on the Spaniard, who initially struggled to adapt to English football.

Iraola’s reputation among Premier League aficionados is continuing to blossom at the Vitality Stadium. Journalist Duncan Castles recently revealed that Iraola had rebuffed approaches from Tottenham’s higher-ups – but he, according to BetVictor, is still the second favourite to replace Postecoglou.

1Mauricio Pochettino, USMNT

Current odds: 10/3

Given that Mauricio Pochettino has already managed in north London, there are certainly some legs in the Argentine – who is currently in charge of the USMNT – returning to his former role should Postecoglou get the boot. Things haven’t gone swimmingly for the ex-Chelsea man and, after a ‘miserable’ international break, all fingers are pointing towards an early exit.

That would, of course, mean that Pochettino would be back on the market. The question is, however, whether the 53-year-old – who was last in charge of Spurs in 2019 – would accept a return to the hustle and bustle of club football now that his life is less chaotic. Alas, it’d be a move that would certainly split the fanbase in half.
