Benjamin Sesko: How £73m Man Utd Striker Performed For Slovenia vs Sweden

Manchester United supporters have delivered a clear verdict on Benjamin Sesko following his performance in Slovenia’s 2-2 draw with Sweden on Friday night. The Red Devils signed the forward for £73.7 million over the summer in what many saw as the final piece of their attacking puzzle.

The former RB Leipzig striker, who scored 27 goals across his last two Bundesliga seasons, arrived shortly after Premier League duo Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were also added to United’s forward line earlier in the window. But after four games, the 6ft 5in Slovenian is still searching for his first goal at Old Trafford, having been eased in due to a lack of full fitness.

His performance against Sweden this weekend, while not brilliant, offered some encouragement for those tuning in to do a bit of extra homework on the 22-year-old. After the missteps of Anthony Martial and Rasmus Hojlund, supporters at the Theatre of Dreams are desperate for Sesko to finally come good.

In his 90-minute outing, Sesko registered 32 touches, completed 79 per cent of his passes, won all of his aerial duels, and came out on top in two of six ground duels. The absence of a single shot on goal was a clear negative, but his physicality and eagerness to get involved have United fans cautiously singing his praises.

“Sesko played really well. I watched the game,” one X user commented as another added: “Far from a performance that ripped up trees from Sesko tonight. That said. He looked a markedly better player than Woltemade did last night, even while playing better opposition.” Meanwhile, a third remarked (watch Sesko’s match highlights below):

“I genuinely wouldn’t care if Sesko is all strength and heading (which he’s isn’t) because he’d create space out wide and also get on the end of Mbeumo’s crosses.”

Although not officially credited by the stats websites, Sesko appeared to have played a key role in assisting one of Slovenia’s goals. The footage shows the centre-forward wrestling with a defender before winning a header that sent his teammate through on goal. Watch the incident below:

Naturally, that has also paved the way for a lot of praise in the 22-year-old’s direction. “This is lovely stuff. Much more inclined to involve himself in contact,” one X user said about the assist, while another wrote: “Just seen the Slovenia equaliser. Sesko looked a right handful and got the assist. Another 90 minutes in the tank too for him.”

Elsewhere, a sixth user concluded on yet another positive note, writing: “Sesko will be a monster for Manchester United… look at that assist for the 2-2 equaliser vs Sweden.”
