Heartbroken Kai Rooney Says ‘Life Can’t Get Worse’ as He Shares Update at Man United
Manchester United youngster Kai Rooney, who is the son of Old Trafford royalty Wayne, is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps by rising through the age groups at the training ground Carrington. Recently, the 15-year-old has been left heartbroken, revealing that his “life can’t get worse” on Instagram, after picking up an injury which has left him with crutches.
For the teenager, the pressure continues to ramp up. Not least because he’s at a club which demands the very best on a day-to-day basis, but because he’s the eldest son of one of the greatest strikers to ever grace the beautiful game. Kai, as best he can, has managed to stray away from the comparisons by establishing a reputation for himself.
Kai, largely thanks to his goalscoring prowess in the final third, has been catching the attention of many for quite some time in the United academy ranks. Given that his dad broke into senior proceedings at Everton at the tender age of 16, the young lad will find it difficult to emulate the career of his old man, who is now enjoying his post-playing career as a pundit.

Recently, after a terrific left-footed volley into the top corner which he scored for United’s U18s, the youngster was called up to the club’s U19s squad to rub shoulders with academy prospects who are four years older than him. His immediate future, however, involves hobbling around on crutches rather than marauding up the flank.
On a more-than-promising trajectory through the United youth set-up, Kai may now have to re-establish his best form upon returning from injury – and his message will resonate deeply with any footballer who has experienced a similar setback, especially in the infancy of one’s career.
Understandably devastated at the prospect of having to spend a lengthy, enforced spell on the sidelines, rather than strutting his stuff on the pitch, Kai has taken to Instagram to insist that “life can’t get worse” alongside a crying emoji after he picked up an injury. The picture showed his right foot, which is his weaker of the two, in a protective boot.
At the time of writing, it is not known how long Kai – who has been on United’s books since 2020 and can operate either through the middle or on the wing – will spend on the sidelines, nor has the nature of his injury been made public. The tone of his post, though, perhaps points towards a quick recovery.
Although the Old Trafford faithful have demanded that Kai be promoted into the first team picture under Ruben Amorim, the youngster will be pleased to be making evident inroads in his development, having been promoted to the U19s squad for a prestigious tournament in Croatia. He also shone over the summer in a world-famous tournament in Northern Ireland.

The glittering forward has since been back to playing with the U18s, and he scored in his side’s 5-0 victory over Middlesbrough U18s. In an interview with BBC Sport, per Manchester Evening News, Wayne said: “I just let him play. I think it’s very unfair for anyone to expect him to go and do all kinds. He’s just playing, he’s a 15-year-old boy playing his football, enjoying it.
“Of course he gets different attention to a lot of his teammates, but I think he handles that really well. He has great coaches at Manchester United, so I take a stand-off approach. I speak to him, but for it’s all about his menality and his mindset, to make sure he keeps enjoying it – that’s the main thing for me.”
