‘Idiot ‘ – Ex-Spurs Chairman Alan Sugar Threatens to Sue Jamie Redknapp & Sky
Former Tottenham Hotspur owner Lord Alan Sugar has lashed out at pundit Jamie Redknapp following some comments made by the pundit.
Redknapp, who has long been known for his punditry work in recent years, was one of two analysts, alongside Gianfranco Zola, providing Sky Sports coverage for West Ham’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, their first match after the September international break.
For Spurs, it marked the first game in over two decades for which Daniel Levy was not chairman. Levy departed his post at Tottenham earlier this month, marking a new era for the Lilywhites fresh off the back of their Europa League success last season, which came 17 years after their last trophy.
Levy was often critiqued for his perceived lack of spending and how much that impacted managers such as Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. His work, however, has ensured that Tottenham are in an exceptional position financially and he also oversaw their move into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, regarded as one of the best modern footballing grounds.
In praising Levy for the work he did at Spurs, including the investment into the club’s training facilities, Redknapp also noted that 63-year-old inherited a club that were “a total mess” after the reign of previous owner, Lord Alan Sugar.
Soon after Redknapp made his comments, Sugar took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make his thoughts on the matter known.
‘Talks a Load Of Rubbish’
Writing on X, Sugar described Redknapp as a “double barrel idiot” who “talks a load of rubbish,” making note of the comment Redknapp made about Sugar’s ownership of Spurs.
Known for his business exploits, Sugar took charge of Tottenham in 1991, though fans came to dislike the businessman for his views on the North London side, seemingly treating them as a business rather than a football club at times. Sugar has been cited as an issue by several players, with his reign marred by numerous controversies.
Selling his majority ownership stake to ENIC in 2001, Sugar remained a part-owner of the club until 2007 and has not been involved with any other football clubs since departing his role with Spurs. Sugar continued in his tweet, stating that Redknapp and Sky would be hearing from his lawyers in response to the former defender’s comments.
