Nottingham Forest’s Europa League campaign got off to a frustrating start after a 2–2 draw with Real Betis, and fans have turned their anger on one player, demanding he be dropped from the squad immediately.

Forest had taken control of the game early thanks to a quick-fire brace from Igor Jesus, who struck in the 18th and 23rd minutes after Cedric Bakambu’s opener for Betis. The Reds looked well placed to secure three points, but the second half told a different story.

As Betis pushed forward, Forest’s midfield came under increasing scrutiny, with Sangaré heavily criticised for losing possession in dangerous areas and failing to close down runners late on. His substitution in the 81st minute for Ryan Yates only fuelled the debate, as Betis found their equaliser four minutes later through Antony, leaving fans convinced the Ivorian had offered little protection to his defence.

The reaction online was fierce. Supporters flooded social media with angry posts and calls for Nuno Espírito Santo to take Sangaré out of the starting XI.

“Drop him now, he’s costing us points,” one fan wrote on X, while another added: “Every time he plays, we look weaker. Enough is enough.” A third went even further: “Sell him in January — we can’t carry passengers in Europe.”

Some fans even created memes highlighting Sangaré’s misplaced passes and late tracking, which quickly went viral among the Forest community. A mock poll shared widely suggested that over 70% of fans wanted him out of the lineup for the next group-stage clash.

Despite the backlash, the manager defended his player in the post-match press conference, insisting Sangaré “worked hard for the team” and that the criticism was “harsh.” But many fans weren’t convinced, demanding immediate changes before Forest’s next outing.

The draw leaves Forest with just a point to show from a game they had led for over an hour, and with pressure mounting both in Europe and domestically, the spotlight on Sangaré will only grow ahead of their next match.
