Injury update tottenham star “frustrating” ankle injury.. says this is the long injury he ever had in his carrier
James Maddison is expecting to be sidelined for another two months as he continues recovery from a ‘frustrating’ ankle injury suffered in November.
The England international was forced out of Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea on 6 November, with tests revealing that he had suffered ankle ligament damage.
The 27-year-old has been out of action since and is not close to a return, despite Maddison saying that recovery is going well and to plan.
‘It’s healing well, it’s a bit of a slow burner which is obviously frustrating because like you said, I started the season so well,’ he told Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video Sport. ‘But it’s healing, slowly but surely.
This is probably the longest one [injury] I’ve had if it’s say three months, I’ve never really gone past that.
‘It’s frustrating, you know what it’s like being injured, everyday is tough, especially at Spurs, the training ground has got the big window so the physio room is just looking perfectly out to the training pitch watching all the lads train and prepare for the games at the minute.
‘You have that helpless feeling but it’s recovering well, it’s one of them, it’s going to take a bit of time, you’ve got to just accept it and then crack on with the rehab.’
Maddison had been very impressive for Spurs since signing from Leicester City over the summer, scoring three goals in his first 11 Premier League matches under Ange Postecoglou.
Speaking of his manager, Maddison revealed that the Australian is a charismatic presence at Tottenham, but not someone who will have friendly conversations with his players.
‘He’s been good. He’s a really likeable man. You very rarely have a social sort of conversation with him. He won’t sit and have lunch with you or have any small talk,’ said Maddison.
But there’s a level of respect there, and he’ll always ask about your family. But he doesn’t want to be too tight with players, there’s a boundary and he wants to treat everyone the same – there’s no favourites.
‘He genuinely makes you want to go and play well for him. He has that charisma, the way he uses stories and messages when he speaks to us.’
