James Maddison shares what Tottenham’s players say about Ange Postecoglou after team meetings
James Maddison has shared what Ange Postecoglou will not see the Tottenham Hotspur players say about his team talks as he admitted that he has never seen anything like the meetings the Australian holds.
Maddison was speaking on Amazon Prime Sport as the Spurs boss continues to come in for plaudits after an amazing start to life in the Premier League.
Tottenham fans took little time to fall in love with Ange Postecoglou. Spurs have been transformed this season. Of course, they led the way for much of the early stages of the campaign.
James Maddison shares what Tottenham players say about Ange Postecoglou team talks
And Postecoglou is being praised after Tottenham’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City at the weekend. It was a performance that showed exactly why the boss is not changing his style to suit the critics and doubters.
And it seems that the Tottenham players have been just as impressed by Postecoglou as those of us on the outside.
As Ben Foster lauded the Tottenham boss, James Maddison explained that the players will often talk about the boss’ team talks with a sense of disbelief.
“He’s got that bite that you need. You talk about having people in the palm of their hand, when he does meetings in the build-up to a game, match day minus one, even on the day of the game, you’re zoned into it. I’ve never seen a meeting like it. And I’ve worked under a good few managers,” he told Amazon Prime Sport.
“Just his motivational speaking, sometimes I don’t even think he means to start it and he just gets into it and you don’t blink. And he genuinely makes me want to go and play for him, and play well for him.
“He has that charisma, the way he talks and the way he uses little stories, little messages, little analogies. Whatever he does, it works. When we come out of a meeting and we go back to the changing room, the bit he won’t see, the lads are like, ‘that’s a good one, wasn’t it!’”
A result to silence Spurs’ doubters
As a neutral, it was fantastic to see Tottenham not deviate from their principles against Manchester City. But of course, that should not have been a surprise.
So in fact, it was fantastic to see Tottenham’s principles earn them a positive result at the Etihad Stadium. Certainly, you could sense Spurs’ doubters gearing up to get stuck in after what they expected to be a heavy loss at the hands of the champions.
But Tottenham’s three defeats did not tell the story of their performances. So the draw with City would have been a massive boost to their belief.
However, judging by what Maddison has said about Postecoglou’s team talks, a boost to their belief was probably not needed amongst the squad.
