Just In – Tottenham deal ‘could happen’ as club boss admits Spurs dream man finally ready for club exit but only on one condition.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has admitted Tottenham target Dominic Solanke could leave in a big-money move in January. The 26-year-old has been in sensational form this season, playing an instrumental role in Bournemouth’s climb up the Premier League table.
Solanke scored again – his 12th of the season – in the Cherries’ 3-0 victory over Fulham on Boxing Day and is now only behind Erling Haaland in the Premier League scoring charts. His sizzling form has attracted the attention of Tottenham, who are still looking for a long-term Harry Kane replacement despite having the likes of Son Heung-Min, Richarlison and Alejo Veliz at their disposal.
Solanke has emerged as a prime candidate, having flourished under Iraola this season. The Bournemouth boss has worked wonders so far, with the club up in 12th just six points behind Manchester United. However, one of the Spaniard’s fears is that the current success will lead to an exodus of some of his best players like Solanke in the January window. Spurs are tracking the English forward, who would leave a huge void in the side were he to leave next month.
“There are clubs with huge financial potential in England and it could happen,” Iraola told The Independent. Solanke has impressed his boss so much this season that he has called on Gareth Southgate to take him to the Euros in Germany.
“He’s good enough for Gareth Southgate to call him up for the national team, although he’s aware of the competition he has to play at the Euros in Germany. Hopefully he will make the final squad. He has that dream and it would be good news for everyone,” he added.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are prioritising a defender in the January window, with Ange Postecoglou battling an injury crisis in defence. Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ryan Sessegnon are all currently sidelined with injuries but are expected to return in the New Year.
However, van de Ven’s injury in particular has exposed Spurs’ lack of depth at the back with Postecoglou forced to name a backline entirely made up of wing backs earlier on in the campaign.
Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are high on their shortlist.
