“They are just useless”: Ian Wright fires brutal message to Manchester united as he praises Ange Postecoglou on playing Tottenham duo out of position and yet still comes out with draw at Old Trafford.

Ange Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air since his summer switch from Treble-winners Celtic to English Premier League outfit, Tottenham Hotspur.

Ahead of the new campaign, Spurs fans were in the dumps, not looking forward to the new season, no European football and having just lost their best-ever player, Harry Kane.

But Tottenham’s newly-appointed manager quickly turned that around, with his fearless and highly demanding style of play, which has seen him do things his way and his way only.

Proof of that is how he has deployed Emerson Royal and Ben Davies this season when Tottenham’s main centre-backs have either been injured or suspended.

Ian Wright described that as ‘crazy’, but expressed how Spurs don’t change what they are doing, regardless, whereas, the same can’t be said for Manchester United, as he told Premier League Productions (15/01/24 at 2:35 pm).

The two teams were locked in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, but many felt that it was the London club who were the better side.

Ian Wright was trying to make the point about how Manchester United have ‘no structure’, but it’s the complete opposite of Spurs.

Emerson Royal and Ben Davies

“You look at Tottenham, remember when we saw Emerson Royal play centre-half for Tottenham and we saw Davies play (centre-half for Tottenham),” said Wright.

“You thought ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy’ because that is how he wants them to play. We are saying ‘how can he keep doing this?’.

“He has got van de Ven. He is his pace man if they are going to play high. You have Romero that if you do want to play out from the back, just because they are injured, your team don’t stop doing what they are doing. That’s why we are saying ‘why is he continuing to play like this?’ Because that’s the structure he has put in place.

“The problem Manchester United have, there is no structure!”

Ange Postecoglou’s style of play

When Spurs fans had the trophy-winning coaches – Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte – in charge, a lot was said about their style of play and there was a lack of entertainment.

During the latter stages of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign, and years after, slowly but surely, the team started to decline, both on and off the pitch.

The calls for Daniel Levy to be booted out were growing louder and louder.

But all of that has now changed on its head because of Postecoglou, his style of play, how he approaches the media and his no-nonsense methods.

Fast forward to the present, and amazingly enough, Spurs fans haven’t even shown an ounce of them missing Kane.
