Leeds United are reportedly eyeing a late loan move to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies.
That’s according to The Athletic, which claims that Leeds could move for the defender if he becomes available on loan.
Ben Davies has been an important part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad this season, racking up 14 appearances in the Premier League.
That’s largely down to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero picking up hamstring injuries. But the 30-year-old stepped up well in the duo’s absence.
Van de Ven and Romero returned to action on Sunday as Spurs picked up a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. Radu Dragusin was also snapped up from Genoa last week, further bolstering Postecoglou’s options at centre-back.
But in what has been described as an ‘incredibly unlikely’ transfer, Leeds to hold an interest in signing the Welshman before this month’s deadline.
Leeds could make surprise move for Davies
The Athletic reports that Leeds have a ‘speculative eye’ on Davies in the event that there are further changes to the Spurs squad before deadline day.
Of course, Leeds have already snapped up Joe Rodon and Djed Spence from Tottenham on loan deals this term.
While the latter’s move to Elland Road didn’t quite work out, Davies’ compatriot Rodon has excelled in Yorkshire.
Yet, the outlet has also described the chances of Tottenham allowing Davies to leave as ‘incredibly unlikely’.
Davies has proven to be a reliable performer for Tottenham over the years and it would be a surprise to see the £10 million man move on this month.
It feels likely that Spurs will eventually upgrade on the Welshman but given their struggles with injuries this term, they won’t want to leave themselves short at centre-back.
The former Swansea City defender has put in some ‘outstanding’ performances at centre-back this season.
Davies is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but looks set to return within four to six weeks.
Unless Spurs snap up a centre-back before the end of the month, it’s difficult to see Leeds pulling this one off.
