Tottenham Hotspur’s quest to sign a new midfielder could see them make a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson instead of Conor Gallagher.
Ederson has been linked with a move to England in recent days as a number of clubs look to Serie A for reinforcements.
Reports have suggested that Newcastle are fans of the Atalanta star, while Tottenham have also been credited with holding an interest.
Tottenham have already had a good window in signing Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.
And speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones has said that while Ederson is not the ultimate fit for Spurs, he could end up signing given the Fabio Paratici links.
Tottenham not ruled out of signing Ederson
Speaking about what he knows about Tottenham’s links to Ederson, Jones had the following update.
“It’s difficult to know how quickly Ederson would integrate into Premier League life, so I struggle to see Ederson as an alternative to Gallagher because, from what I am told, he’s not got the same energy and is not the stylistic fit of a No. 8 that Gallagher would be in this Spurs team. Of course, it could well be that he has been recommended by Paratici, though, and we know he’s continuing to consult. That factor means I can’t totally rule him out as a target,” Jones said.
Any deal for Ederson is likely to cost Spurs or other clubs around £30m.
Described by Sky’s Tim Vickery as a ‘strong and box-to-box’ midfielder, Ederson would certainly improve the depth and quality at Spurs right now.
Spurs are also believed to be in talks to sign Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge.
Players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil are also being linked with moves away in what could be a busy end to the window for Spurs.
