‘It’s very sad’… Heung Min Son reacts after been told what happened at Tottenham while he was away for Asian Cup [Full story link in comment]

Heung-min Son has admitted he was ‘very sad’ after Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the FA Cup last month.

Spurs were knocked out in the fourth round by current holders Manchester City on January 26.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were largely outclassed on the night and a late Nathan Ake header sent Pep Guardiola’s men through.

Of course, Tottenham were without a few key players on the night, including Heung-min Son, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.

All three players were on international duty, with Son at the Asian Cup while Bissouma and Sarr were participating in AFCON 2024.

Now, Son has admitted he was gutted to see Spurs crash out of the FA Cup while he was away last month.

Son ‘very sad’ after Tottenham’s FA Cup exit

Speaking to NBC Sports after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton, Son discussed Spurs’ aims for the remainder of the season.

“It’s very sad when I was away we went out of the FA Cup and now we have only one game in a week, so it’s kind of now you have to see the reality and give the best,” the Tottenham skipper said.

“Now there is only a few moments left until the end of the season but we don’t want to talk about the future already, we just want to give the best as a team we can, and see where it takes us.

“We can’t promise but we will do our best to make it something special.”

The FA Cup represented Tottenham’s most realistic chance of silverware this season.

Postecoglou’s side crashed out of the League Cup back in August and it would take something truly special for them to win the league title this season.

Spurs were way below their best against City last month and they undoubtedly missed their talisman Son.

The 31-year-old boasts an exceptional record against Guardiola’s side and is often a thorn in the side of the Premier League champions.

Nevertheless, it has been a positive debut campaign for Postecoglou so far and Spurs remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.
