Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has reacted to Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to rise their season ticket prices.
It has been a PR disaster for the north London club this week with the announcement of a six per cent hike in season ticket prices.
However, it seems not everyone is in disagreement with the decision of Daniel Levy, as Neville has provided some reasoning.
Tottenham Hotspur season ticket prices
It was announced on Wednesday that season ticket renewals would see a surge in price ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
There is no doubt that the football on display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a much better product under Ange Postecoglou this season.
However, the decision to raise prices by a whopping six per cent comes at a time of economic struggle where going to the football is proving too expensive for some people.
Yet, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville has provided his thoughts on Levy’s decision. He said: “He won’t be making any extra money out of that six per cent because the energy costs have gone up, staff costs have gone up, inflation. So he either has to stay where they are and it means he loses more money effectively or he just wants to stay exactly where they are.

It is not hard to imagine, but the news did not go down well with Tottenham fans who took to social media to vent their anger.
Fans will appreciate the club’s reasoning of increased external costs such as energy bills; they will be experiencing that in their own homes.
However, for a multi-billion pound organisation to then demand the money to come from their fans feels incredibly wrong at this time.
Spurs may make the argument that there has not been a price rise for a number of years, however, fans are already paying some of the highest prices in Europe.
Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness previously said: “We could charge more than £104. Let’s say we charged £300. We’d get £2m more in income, but what’s £2m to us?
“In a transfer discussion, you argue about that sum for five minutes. But the difference between £104 and £300 is huge for the fan. We do not think the fans are like cows, who you milk.”
And it has to be said this is more relevant than ever. Of course, football clubs are going to feel the effect of rising external costs.
However, they have the backing of multi-billionaires who should be dipping their hands in their pockets to cover the costs so the fans are not effected.
Levy had just about earned some credit among Spurs fans this season, it is fair to say that has quickly turned.
