Gabriel Agbonlahor backs Timo Werner and fires brutal reply to Andy Goldstein after a mockery comment on interview [Full story link in comment]
Timo Werner did not have the best of times at Chelsea, but the forward is doing well at Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur at the moment.
Tottenham Hotspur signed former Chelsea forward Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window.
I have to admit that it came as a surprise to me. After all, the £164,000-a-week (SalarySport) Germany international forward struggled to score goals during his time at Chelsea. He scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in 56 appearances in the Premier League for the Blues.
Werner, though, has done well for Spurs so far. The 28-year-old has scored two goals and given two assists in five starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham.
One of those goals for Werner came against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League this past weekend.
Villa were already down to 10 men after John McGinn was sent off in the 65th minute. Tottenham won the match 4-0 in the end.
Former Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor was discussing the match with co-host Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT on Tuesday.
Goldstein was poking fun at Agbonlahor by saying that Villa were so bad that even Werner scored.
As you can see from the conversation below, Agbonlahor did try to defend the Germany international forward.

Andy Goldstein: “This is how bad your team are – Timo Werner scored against you.”
Gabriel Agbonlahor: “Well, you don’t think he is a good player? He played for Chelsea, Ange just signed him. You don’t think he is a good player?”
Goldstein: “It doesn’t matter he played for Chelsea.”
Agbonlahor: “You don’t think he is a good player.”
Goldstein: “No. I don’t think he is a goalscorer.”
Agbonlahor: “Oh, wow!”
Goldstein: “Do you think he is a goalscorer?”
Agbonlahor: “I don’t think he is a natural finisher, no. He scored down to 10 men.”
My View: Timo Werner was a smart signing for Tottenham
In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur made a smart decision in bringing Timo Werner to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the January transfer window.
Werner may not be a natural goalscorer, but he is very quick and can take up good positions. He can be a nuisance for the opposition defenders with his direct and energy.
The forward was supposed to be a temporary cover for Son Heung-min when he was out on international duty with South Korea at the Asia Cup.
Tottenham do not have any obligation to make Werner’s loan deal permanent. It was a very risk-free signing.
