Georginio Rutter sends ‘special’ message to Leeds United faithful after Brighton win.
Speaking to Leeds Live, the Brighton & Hove Albion attacker sent a message to those who made the trip down to the South coast.
Georginio Rutter said it felt “strange” to play against Leeds United, with memories coming flooding back to him upon seeing the Whites away support.
Rutter – facing his old team for the first time since leaving last year – played an instrumental role in Brighton’s third goal in Saturday’s 3-0 win for the Seagulls. He was given a grand ovation as he left the pitch at the Amex Stadium.
Asked by Leeds Live how he found taking on his former side, Rutter replied: “I think today, we managed the game very good.
“Yeah, I see everybody [former teammates] before and after the game. It was a bit strange, I don’t want to lie – but it’s football.
“I’m gonna play against them in [May], I think as well at Elland Road. When I took to the pitch and I see, the fans and, obviously, I remember the good times I had with them. So it was very special today.”
Speaking further about that trip to Elland Road, Rutter added: “I think about it – have to. I’m not going to enjoy this game, to have to play against them! We’ll see what happens.”
Rutter was seen greeting several Leeds players, former colleagues, before kick-off. The attacker was asked whether he was able to give any insight into some of United’s players to Brighton’s coaching staff.
He said: “I didn’t have to say something, because when I played, they were in the Championship, so it’s very different. We knew, like they have a good team, and for the counter-attack as well. We had to be careful.”
