Ange Postecoglou made a claim about Harry Kane right after Tottenham Hotspur beat Nottingham Forest yesterday.
Tottenham picked up a vital three points in north London on Sunday to move above Aston Villa into the top four.
With a tough run of fixtures up next, it felt vital that Ange Postecoglou’s men get the job done against a relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
Spurs now face a run of games where they will play Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Goals from Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro secured a much-needed win on Sunday.
Barring Heung-min Son’s 15 Premier League goals, it’s fair to say that Tottenham have shared the load when it comes to producing in the final third.
That was to be expected following Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich last summer and Postecoglou is delighted to see his defenders chipping in with goals.
Postecoglou makes Kane claim after Spurs beat Forest
Speaking to Spurs Play, Postecoglou was asked about the importance of players all over the pitch chipping in with goals following Kane’s departure.
The Aussie admitted that it was necessary after losing the club’s all-time top goalscorer but he expects his midfielders to chip in with more goals in the future.
“It’s essential because we were never going to replace Harry with somebody who’s going to score that volume of goals, those kinds of players just don’t exist,” Postecoglou said. “So, for us, it was then about the collective and how we can bridge that gap.
“Sonny’s done a great job of leading the line up there. Even today, he didn’t get a goal and he was unlucky but he worked awful hard for the team. The wingers I thought contributed.
“For us, it’s about a little bit of everything from everyone. We think there are more goals in this team, particularly from midfield areas. It was great to see a couple of defenders get it today.”
Will Tottenham sign a Kane replacement?
We’ve seen the club linked with moves for plenty of forward players ahead of the summer.
The likes of Antonio Nusa and Pedro Neto are names that keep cropping up as potential Tottenham targets.
But whether or not the club decide to bring a striker to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium remains to be seen.
Brentford star Ivan Toney is reportedly of interest to Spurs and looks set to leave the Gtech Community Stadium this summer.
It has to be said that Spurs are faring well without a recognised striker this season but bringing in a different kind of option to Son feels necessary.
