James Maddison challenges his Spurs teammates as he sets new objectives for them after recent criticism

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has revealed that the club needs to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Tottenham are currently fourth in the league table and they are desperate to finish the season strongly and secure European football for the next season.

Maddison has revealed in an interview with Evening Standard that it is non-negotiable for the club to be in the Champions League next season. The midfielder has now set an unwavering objective for his teammates, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can get the job done.

They have been quite impressive with their performances this season and their attacking style of play has attracted a lot of praise from fans as well as neutrals. However, they will need to produce results on the pitch and a return to the Champions League will be a step in the right direction.

Competing in the Premier European tournament will allow Tottenham to attract better players in the summer and improve their squad significantly. Maddison has also added that he hopes to challenge for the league title with Tottenham next season. He added that Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are involved in an exciting transfer race and it is disappointing that Tottenham are not involved.

“I get the manager not wanting to talk about [finishing in the top four], but I am not going to lie to your face and say you don’t think about that, because we want to be in the Champions League,” Maddison said.

“This club needs to be in the Champions League, [it’s] non-negotiable really, and that’s the aim. That’s why we’ll try to finish strong and get that.

“It’s annoying listening to three teams go at it for the title and we’re not in it.

“How exciting is the title race this season? It’s amazing, it’s brilliant for a neutral. Everyone is locked into the Premier League every week, because it’s such a good title race. Frustrating not to be a part of that, but we are where we are and we have our own job to do.”

Tottenham should aim for title challenge next season

Tottenham have an exciting squad with a lot of potential. If they can plug the gaps in their squad this summer, there is no reason why they cannot compete towards the top of the table.

Finishing in the UEFA Champions League positions will be crucial for them. Attracting top talent without the lure of European football can be quite difficult.

Meanwhile, Maddison has been outstanding for Tottenham in his debut season, and he has established himself as an indispensable asset for them. It will be interesting to see if he can continue in his rich vein of form and help the club finish the season strongly.
