Harry Kane netted his 39th goal of the season on Tuesday night as he scored from the penalty spot in an enthralling 2-2 draw with Arsenal – and is now just two goals off his best-ever goalscoring season.
The 30-year-old finally ended his long-winded Tottenham stay that almost came to an end in 2021, by moving out of England to join Bayern Munich. It came after scoring 280 goals in 435 Tottenham matches.
His record against Spurs’ rivals Arsenal continued last night. He scored from the penalty spot after William Saliba dived in on Leroy Sane, the former Manchester City man winning a penalty for Bayern and Kane.
Kane has a whopping 32 goals in 28 league games and seven goals in nine Champions League matches this term, as Bayern push for a place in the semis. They stand a good chance against Arsenal at home.
Harry Kane now has a whopping 39 goals in 38 Bayern games
Just two goals shy of his best-ever season, which was a whopping 41 goals in 2017-18. However, it is not all good news for the England skipper, who left Spurs to win trophies just as Bayern lose the league title.
Bayer Leverkusen sit 16 points ahead of Kane’s Bayern and in a post-match interview last night, Arsenal fans made it clear Kane could hear them when he was giving an interview – singing “it’s happened again”.
Speaking after the game in a video published on YouTube by Hayters TV, striker Kane was asked if he feels he has improved since leaving boyhood side Tottenham to join the German champions in 2023.
What Kane said when asked if he’s got better since Spurs exit
Kane said: “That’s for you guys to decide. I’m my own biggest critic. I always try to improve, push myself. It’s not the season I wanted, the way the league has gone and how we got knocked out of the cup early.
“I’m always confident to score goals and I have been doing that this year but I’m always looking at areas I can improve. There are areas I can be better. Hopefully I can show that until the end of the season.”
If Kane can improve from scoring 39 goals in his 38 games, and 12 assists, then he will be one of the best players in the world. He already is that, truly world class. Bayern’s struggles are no fault of his own.
Does Kane remain at Bayern? You would imagine so having signed a four-year deal at Bayern. But it will be interesting to see if he wants to return to England to break Alan Shearer’s all-time League record.
