Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh spent the entirety of his first season at the club on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord.
Yankuba Minteh was Eddie Howe’s first summer signing last year after the Magpies swooped to pick up the promising forward from Danish side OB Odense for around £5million.
Before the ink was dry on his Newcastle contract, though, he was signing another one to take him to Holland to play a season in the Eredivisie with champions Feyenoord.
Minteh went on to have a fantastic season at Feyenoord under Arne Slot and while they weren’t able to defend their title, they did lift the KNVB Cup with Minteh playing in the final and getting sent off.
Arne Slot is to leave Feyenoord to take up the head coach position at Liverpool
Feyenoord were so happy with Minteh that they want to sign him again for another year-long loan with the player himself quite keen on the idea.
However, as was heavily rumoured, Liverpool have today announced that Arne Slot will leave Feyenoord to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Given how instrumental Slot was in Minteh’s development, it may impact his decision to return to the Dutch side should the opportunity arise again.
Feyenoord and Minteh remain keen to link up again
It is believed that both parties are still interested despite Slot’s departure but it remains to be seen.
With Eddie Howe also keen to cast a close eye over Minteh in pre-season, there’s still a chance that he’s not loaned out at all and finds himself part of Howe’s squad next season.
His performances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and the Champions League have shown that he can cut it at a high level, so if he can prove that over the summer, he has every chance to be kept around by Howe next season.
