Bruno Guimaraes’ latest social media post has sparked an upbeat reaction from Newcastle United supporters.

Bruno Guimaraes has vowed to ‘bring on’ the 2024-25 season — and Newcastle United fans are convinced it means he’s staying!

The Magpies are determined to keep hold of the Brazilian this summer. However, for the next four weeks, his future is out of their control with his £100million release clause understood to be valid until the final week of June.

A potentially nervous wait is in store with Manchester City and Arsenal big admirers but Guimaraes’ latest social media post has sparked hope that he’s going nowhere.

The 26-year-old uploaded a video of his best highlights from the recent season with the caption “The 23/24 season is over, bring on 24/25”. Supporters have replied in their hundreds and many seem to share the same view.

Newcastle United’s stance

Guimaraes has been a transformative signing since joining from Lyon in January 2022 with his opening 18 months on Tyneside coinciding with Newcastle’s rise from Premier League relegation candidates to qualifying for the Champions League.

Despite finishing outside the European places this season, Guimaraes has remained an integral part having featured in all-but one of the club’s 38 league matches. He netted seven goals in total.

United boss Eddie Howe has made it clear he wants to keep Guimaraes.

“When it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t tend to worry about,” Howe said previously. “I think it goes without saying what my thoughts on the Bruno situation are.

“We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he’s an integral part of what we are doing. His form has been very good. He seems very happy and settled. He will be thinking about a busy summer ahead and where we can hopefully take the team. He is a big part of that. We are not in control of that, so we shall see.”

And Guimaraes himself has also hinted he wants to continue his career at St James’ Park.

Speaking after making his 100th appearance away to Fulham in April, he said: “I hope to stay much longer. I don’t know what the future brings let’s see, but I hope to play much more for Newcastle United.”
