Eddie Howe’s Magpies and Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are both said to be looking at more defensive reinforcements in pursuit of higher league placings this season.
Likewise, Arne Slot’s Reds are also reportedly looking for a new centre-back after Joel Matip left Anfield on a free transfer this summer.
Arsenal were linked with Guehi some weeks ago , although it remains to be seen whether they’re in the market for more defenders after signing Riccardo Calafiori.
As for Tottenham, Alasdair Gold said in June that Spurs really like the Palace ace , and Danny Murphy has backed Liverpool to move for the defender.Newcastle currently appear to be the most active club in pursuit of the Crystal Palace and England star.
Journalist Keith Downie has now shared a fresh update on the Guehi state of play on Sky Sports News.Downie has reported that Newcastle’s third offer for Guehi, understood to be £55million plus £5million in add-ons, has been turned down by Palace.
“Talks continue over a deal but Newcastle looking at alternatives should the deal not happen,” added the Sky Sports journalist.
Race still open for ‘generational talent’
Although Newcastle remain in talks over Guehi, Downie’s report suggests they don’t seem too desperate to sign him, as they have alternatives .This could potentially let the likes of Tottenham ,
Liverpool and Arsenal back in the race for the Euro 2024 finalist if they decide to intensify their interest.
However, any club wanting to sign Guehi over the next few weeks must be prepared to loosen their purse strings.
“Nobody has got to the valuation yet,” Palace chairman Steve Parish said a few days ago .
“If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money.
“It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision. He’s a generational talent!”
Parish’s comments suggested that Newcastle’s offer wouldn’t have been high enough, and this has proven to be the case, based on Downie’s report
