HITC understands that Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba has made his stance on his future clear this summer.

Multiple top players from the German side have been linked with a move away this summer including Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie, who was offered to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The future of Edmond Tapsoba has also been up in the air, amid interest from the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League, and now the defender has made his decision.

Edmond Tapsoba makes decision on future amid Newcastle move

Sources have told HITC that Tapsoba is keen on remaining at the German side this summer amid interest in his services this summer.

The 25-year-old is one of the stars of Alonso’s all-conquering title winners from last season and the Burkina Faso central defender has been the subject of interest from a host of clubs.

HITC can confirm that Newcastle United have made an approach in recent days as they continue their hunt for a new central defender as the Magpies approach for Marc Guehi continues to stall, but they are not the first to ask – even this summer.

As mentioned, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were also keen on the 25-year-old defender but HITC understands that Tapsoba showed little desire to make a move to these clubs last summer.

HITC understands that Tapsoba is keen on playing Champions League football with Leverkusen and it is looking like an uphill task for Newcastle to sign him.

Tapsoba not keen on move to Newcastle

As mentioned, Newcastle may have to start looking at alternatives for Guehi this summer. We reported that Fulham have struck an agreement with Palace for Joachim Andersen, which essentially means that Guehi is not for sale.

It looks unlikely that Newcastle will sign Guehi or even Tapsoba, due to the defender’s desire to remain at the German club.

There is also interest in Tapsoba from the Saudi Pro-League – who have offered to make Tapsoba one of the highest-paid defenders in world football.

HITC understands that Al-Nassr are ready to offer up to £50 million for the 25-year-old defender but the player has shown little desire to make the move to the Middle East.
