Romero has become a key player under the management of Ange Postecoglou, forming an excellent centre-back partnership alongside Micky van de Ven heading into the new Premier League campaign.
Although Hutton believes the Lilywhites would have to consider a “huge” offer it was made ahead of the deadline, he thinks it would be a “nightmare” for Postecoglou to lose one of his most important players.
“I think it would be huge,” Hutton exclusively. His 100th game and after an early misplaced pass he volleyed a shot at Pickford and then picked out Maddison with a great ball over the top. Took an elbow to the stomach in that first half but marked his milestone performance with a powerful header in off the crossbar with 20 minutes to go.
Romero does have his issues and his poor discipline has cost the Lilywhites occasionally, but when he is at his best he is quite simply one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
His partnership with Van de Ven is perfect for the way that Postecoglou wants his team to play in North London as they both have the pace and drive to thrive in that high backline that has caught teams out.

Tottenham got a brace from Son Heung-Min to go along with an opening blast from Yves Bissouma and a late header from Cuti Romero, as they rolled to a 4-0 home win over a pretty hapless Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Hopefully, Spurs will be able to beat away any interest that arises in the centre-back between now and the end of August. As Hutton suggests, it would be a disaster for Spurs and Postecoglou to lose such a crucial player so close to the end of the transfer window, but that blow would be eased slightly if it was for £70million.If Madrid match Levy’s terms, the Spurs chief could have a very difficult decision to make.
This was pretty much a comprehensive beat-down, and it was super fun to watch. A club debut from Wilson Odobert, an incredible box to box run from Micky van de Ven, and some really good performances today, too and that’s where you come in!
“The performance was good, it was good last week. We limited them to what they’re good at – set pieces – which we dealt with well. It’s really encouraging for us.
“I also felt, as long as we keep performing and creating chances, those kind of things [scoring that second goal] take their turn. Good pressing on Jordan [Pickford] by Sonny and he got his rewards.
“We want to keep improving. Last week was a strong performance as well, we dominated the game, but we have to close it out. When we do dominate a game, we have to make it count and we did that today.”
