Everton and Newcastle United are hoping to conclude some late deals ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
Both teams haven’t overseen the business they would have liked and it has been fairly quiet, with Profit Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP) playing its part.The man who should be most worried, although, he won’t show it, is Sean Dyche because his team have lost their opening two matches and conceded seven goals to boot.
Tottenham thrashed Everton 4-0 on Saturday and it’s pretty clear that the powers that be at Goodison Park need to invest, or else, they will be going down.
Further up the country, Newcastle were ‘lucky’ to draw at Bournemouth, with changes made in the boardroom this summer and Eddie Howe keen on his backline being enhanced.
But the other player who could also hit the headlines ahead of deadline day is Kieran Trippier, amid suggestions he wants out of the club.
Everton have been linked with Trippier, with Paul Merson suggesting that it would be a ‘great signing’ for the club.
The former double-winner at Arsenal added that, if Newcastle let him go, then it would be a ‘bad, bad loss’, as he told Sky Sports News .
“He’s an international. I am a big fan of his. I think he is a very, very good footballer. He can play on both sides. And his set plays.
“Everton aren’t going to open up teams for fun every week, so they have to rely on scraps. When you have someone who can put the ball on a sixpence like he can, then it can only help and they are very good at set-plays. He’s a good signing. I can see where Eddie Howe is coming from, where he is going ‘the first I have heard’. Sometimes, you put two and two together. Everton haven’t got a right-back, at the moment, then you look at Trippier. Whoever gets him will be very, very fortunate and it would be a bad, bad loss for Newcastle football club.”
You worry Everton will go down in their final season at Goodison if they don’t get their act together and bring in some new players.
It’s a different story at Newcastle. Howe has been linked with the England manager’s job and the new faces in the boardroom need to persuade him that the future is bright going forward.Howe has expressed his surprise at the Trippier talk and you think he is an individual they can’t lose.
Class is permanent for a reason, not only that, Trippier is brilliant for the dressing room and it’s another reason to keep him on board.
