NEWS IN: Newcastle set to seal deal for two players before deadline

Paul Mitchell’s start to life as Newcastle’s Sporting Director hasn’t been all that exciting.

The Magpies haven’t splashed the cash this summer.

It was claimed a few weeks ago that Newcastle still have £100m to spend this summer, but, as of yet, that money hasn’t been spent.

However, Marc Guehi continues to be linked to Newcastle, and according to Dean Jones, this is a deal that Eddie Howe is very keen on getting done.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Jones shared just how excited Howe is about the idea of signing Guehi.

The journalist says that Howe is bordering on being obsessed with the idea of signing Guehi, claiming that the manager is extremely excited by where the team could go if they sign the England international.

“I don’t know where this ends up, the centre-back signing is the priority, Eddie Howe, obsessed is the wrong word, but he’s extremely excited by how much it elevates their potential having Marc Guehi in the backline. Not just in terms of the top four, but being trophy contenders as well. There’s that sense that Guehi is so trustworthy and so calm,” Jones said.

If Newcastle sign Guehi, they may have quietly built a starting XI capable of contending for the Premier League title in the near future.

A back four of Tino Livramento, Guehi, Sven Botman and Lewis Hall is as good as any in the division, while a midfield of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton is brilliantly balanced.

Of course, there is a gap on the right wing that needs addressing, but any attacking trio that contains Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon will threaten any side.

The depth may not be there, but that starting XI is good enough to go toe-to-toe with any side.

In a few years’ time this team could be ready to contend for a Premier League title.
