Newcastle United have to submit their 25-man Premier League squad before their next match.
The Magpies will face Wolves at Molineux on Sunday 15 September (4:30pm kick-off) in their first match back following the first international break of the season. The Magpies remain unbeaten in all competitions this season following their victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
However, before they make the trip to the Black Country, the Magpies will name their 25-man Premier League squad. Anyone over the age of 21 – or born before January 1 2003 – has to be named in that squad in order to be eligible to play Premier League football this season.
Whilst the majority of the 25 names pick themselves, there will be a couple of players potentially omitted from the list. A five-strong goalkeeping department may see one of them miss out, whilst long-term injury absentees Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman may not be included if they have zero chance of returning to action before the turn of the year.
Isaac Hayden, meanwhile, is also at risk of not being included after failing to secure a move away from the club this summer. Hayden has not featured for the Magpies since December 2021 and was left out of the squad that ended the 2021/22 campaign strongly.

The former Arsenal man spent time on-loan at Standard Liege and QPR last season and was linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer. Unlike Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis, who both found moves to Southampton and Sao Paulo respectively, Hayden remains on Tyneside and out of Howe’s first-team plans.
Anyone younger than 21 – or born after January 1 2003 – does not need to be named in the squad. That cut-off date means players like Lewis Miley, Lewis Hall and Will Osula will not be included but still eligible to play.
Newcastle United have until Friday 13 September to submit their first Premier League squad of the season. They will be given a chance to review and make changes to this squad in January when the winter transfer window opens.
