Tim Sherwood claims £45m Tottenham player ‘needs to improve’ despite draw with Manchester City
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has now shared a surprising opinion following the late draw against Manchester City.
Sherwood was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and claimed that one Spurs forward was still struggling.
Despite the praise Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson has received since the City game, Sherwood still thought he needed to improve.
Sherwood said: “They have got injuries like I say everyone has injuries.
“Players like Kulusevski, playing with that confidence like he is at the moment and Sonny up front.
“Brennan Johnson needs to still improve I believe but no Maddison, it’s a big blow, but they can beat anyone on their day.”
Of course, some may agree that Johnson hasn’t quite hit his highest heights for Spurs as yet, but he has been incredibly exciting since coming into the side.
Johnson certainly has the confidence and quality to succeed, as we saw late against City.
And Pep Guardiola was actually keen to single-out Johnson for praise after the game.
Although slightly quiet for periods of the match, the £45m man took his moment brilliantly, producing the perfect run and cross.

As well as Guardiola, Son Heung-min also reserved some special applause for Johnson after the game.
And after an injury-disrupted start, it does now feel as if the Welsh international is now settling into the team.
It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Johnson was a fixture of the busy festive period, a player who perfectly mirrors Ange Postecoglou’s philosophy – bold, daring and relentless.
However, Johnson will need the support of those behind him, and Yves Bissouma will certainly be targeting improvement after a difficult night.
The midfielder was uncharacteristically poor in possession, a problem also endured by Emerson Royal at centre-back.
And although Sherwood does think Johnson needs to up his game at Tottenham, there were certainly a ton of positives to take from the City tie.
A night in which Postecoglou again stood firm on his message to his Spurs side.
And aside from all the attention he’s getting, Brennan Johnson has been celebrating one of his lesser-mentioned teammates.
